CHCSN programs include a range of services and assistance. There are usually three types of services or assistance available:
Community-wide services, such as immunization programs or health screening programs. These may include screening programs to determine if a child has special health care needs.
Individual assistance in getting medical care, such as help in applying for Medicaid or in purchasing private insurance. A state may also provide financial assistance for out-of-pocket medical expenses that are not covered by insurance. A CHCSN program may provide transportation to and from doctors’ offices.
Direct care services, which may include, specialty clinics for children and young adults with specific diseases.
These are examples of CSHCN services and assistance typically provided by states. You should contact your county health department to get information about the specific Title V CSHCN services available in your community. In this way, you can decide if there are CSHCN services that will help your child.
