What Does SSI Provide?

Those who qualify for SSI receive a benefits payment on the first of each month. This amount is set by the federal government, but state governments may add to it. For children (under age 18) with disabilities in low income families, it is meant to supplement the income of their households in order to help pay additional expenses resulting from illness.
