Many states require small monthly premiums for S-CHIP coverage. The amount of the monthly premiums is based on income. For example, for a family with two children under S-CHIP, the monthly premiums might be $20 or less.
Many states also require small co-payments when a service is used. For example, there may be a $5 “co-pay” for a doctor visit or to fill a medication prescription.
