Medicaid coverage is provided free of charge or at a small cost to those who qualify. Each state determines how much recipients pay toward their Medicaid coverage. If a state requires recipients to share in the cost, it is through small monthly payments, minimal co-payments when a service is used, or limited deductibles (an amount paid by recipients before Medicaid begins payment). Also, these shared costs often do not apply to services for children.
