School-aged children (including teenagers) are eligible for assistance under IDEA if they meet all three of the following requirements:
1. They have a disability that falls into one of the 13 categories of disability defined in IDEA. Children with JA and related conditions who can qualify for assistance under IDEA typically fall into the category called “Other Health Impairment,” which includes disabilities that cause “limited strength, vitality, or alertness.”
2. Their disability affects their performance in school.
3. Because their disability affects their school performance, they need specially designed instruction.
