About Us

This project is funded by the National Institute of Disability Rehabilitation and Research. JA Help has been developed through a collaboration among organizations interested in providing meaningful resources to children and teenagers with juvenile arthritis (and related conditions) and their caregivers. Key partner organizations include:

  • Jerry Parker,Ph.D., Missouri Arthritis Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (MARRTC) Principal Investigator and Director of Research Projects. Associate Dean for Clinical Research and Development and Clinical professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the MU School of Medicine.
  • Michael Grinfeld, Principal Investigator for MARRTC’s JA Help project. Associate professor at the Missouri School of Journalism. Adjunct associate professor at the MU School of Law, and a senior fellow at its Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution. Co-director of the MU Center for the Study of Conflict, Law and the Media. Senior fellow at the MU Center for Religion, Professions and the Public.

  • James Cassidy, M.D., Professor Emeritus, Departments of Child Health and Internal Medicine, University of Missouri School of Medicine. Pediatric rheumatologist and co-editor of leading text on juvenile arthritis, Textbook of Pediatric Rheumatology.
  • Margaret Duffy, Ph.D., Principal Investigator for MARRTC’s efforts to improve media coverage of disability issues. Associate professor at the Missouri School of Journalism. Chair of Advertising.
  • Janet Farmer, Ph.D., ABPP, Professor of Health Psychology and Child Health Director, Thompson Family Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, University of Missouri-Columbia.
  • Ann Kunkel, Education Coordinator, Department of Pediatric Rheumatology, University of Kansas Medical Center. Active in the American Juvenile Arthritis Organization. Recipient of the Charles B. Harding Award for Distinguished Service from the national Arthritis Foundation.
